In 2011, Keukenhof will bring its first spring greetings to Germany. The international flower exhibition has chosen ‘Germany: Land of Poets and Philosophers’ as its central theme for next year. This is not just a tribute to our most important export market for bulbs and flowers, but also to our many tens of thousands of visitors from Germany.

Anne Frank House
The Anne Frank House is a museum with a story. It’s situated in the center of Amsterdam and holds the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during World War II. Anne Frank was a normal girl in exceptional circumstances. For more than two years she described the events of her daily life in hiding in her diary. The original version of the diary is on display as part of the Anne Frank House’s permanent exhibition. The collection and temporary exhibitions focus on the wartime persecution of Jews, contemporary fascism, racism and anti-Semitism.

Visiting the Anne Frank House has been a moving experience for millions of people from all over the world.

Cheese market Almaar

The North Holland city of Alkmaar is famous worldwide for its cheese market. Cheese carriers can be seen in action on the Waagplein square every Friday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. during the summer.
Cheese has been weighed in Alkmaar since 1635. Cheese carriers carry thousands of kilos of cheese from the Waagplein square to the weighing house every Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from mid-April to mid-September. Incidentally, the cheese market is for tourists only; the real cheese trading takes place on the exchange nowadays.

Other cheese markets:

Edam, every Wednesday in July and August from 10.00 till 12.00 o’clock.
Gouda, every Thursday untill the beginning of September from 10.00 till 12.30 o’clock.

Dolfinarium

Enjoy the spectacular shows in the dolfinarium, come face to face with the underwater animals, - including dolphin Spetter - in the underwater viewing room, and stroke sharks and rays at the Roggenrif. The adventures of Spetter can be seen in the 4D adventure film, with vibrating chairs and real water splashes. You can also enjoy a meal at the Dolfinarium while your child plays in one of the four nearby playground.

Giethoorn

 Giethoorn used to be a carfree town known in the Netherlands as “Venice of the North”[1] or “Venice of the Netherlands”[2]. It became famous, especially after 1958, when the Dutch film maker Bert Haanstra made his famous comedy “Fanfare” there. Therefore, Giethoorn is an internationally well-known tourist attraction in the Netherlands. In the old part of the village, there were no roads (nowadays there is a cycling path), and all transport was done by water over one of the many canals. The lakes in Giethoorn were formed by peat unearthing.

Kinderdijk
The Netherlands is famous for its windmills. Today there are still more than 1.000 mills. Nowhere in the world you will find as many windmills as near (the Dutch village) Kinderdijk. Around 1740 no less than 19 sturdy mills were built here. They have been well preserved to the present day.
The mills drain the excess water from the Alblasserwaard polders - which are situated below sea-level - after which the water is sluiced into the river Lek (the Rijn).
Visitors windmill open daily (in season) from April 1st - Nov. 1st, 9:30am - 5:30pm.

Flower Parade: 16 April 2011

The annual Flower Parade will be held on Saturday April 16. Starting in Noordwijk at 9.30 the Parade will take it’s 40km route to Haarlem. 20 large floats and more than 30 decorated cars will participate the parade.
